Aims
This 1 day course aims to raise managers’ and supervisors’ understanding of the legal requirements for
health and safety at work together with an awareness of the economic and humanitarian consequences of
failure. The course focuses on the role of the front line manager in managing risks on behalf of the
employer.

Objectives
At the end of the programme each delegate should be able to:
Identify risks giving rise to loss to the business
Explain the importance of competence, communication, cooperation and control in achieving and maintaining
a safe and healthy workplace
Raise levels of awareness among employees by appropriate counselling, communication and discipline
Explain the main common law and criminal liabilities arising out of workplace accidents and ill-health
Identify factors giving rise to personal liability
Develop an approach to the successful management of workplace risks
Identify the importance of monitoring safety performance and develop suitable performance criteria for their
domain.
