First Aid at Work (HSE Approved).

About the Course:
All UK employers have a legal obligation to provide appropriate First Aid provision for their workforce, and many companies choose to have key staff trained as First Aiders. This course complies with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and has been approved by the Health and Safety Executive.

The First Aid at Work course gives First Aiders the essential knowledge and skills they need to carry out their role and deal confidently with major and minor injuries and illnesses. It is suitable for any person who has been designated a First Aider at work.

The topics covered are:
- First aid priorities
- The duties of employers and the legal framework
- Using a First Aid box
- Record keeping
- Action in an emergency
- Treating an unconscious casualty
- Treating a casualty who is bleeding or wounded
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Shock
- Injuries to bones and muscles
- Burns and scalds
- Eye injuries
- Treating a casualty who has been overcome by gas or fumes
- Poisoning
- Choking
- Recognizing major illness e.g. heart attack, asthma attack
- Managing the transport of casualties

The course runs between 09.00 - 17.00 over four consecutive days, with refreshments, lunch and all course materials provided. Assessment is by a multiple-choice exam on the final day, and a practical skills test. Successful delegates then receive a HSE Approved Certificate, valid for three years.

Before the expiry of this certificate, students who wish to remain First Aiders must take a shorter First Aid Requalification course, which we will re-authorise them for a further three years.
