Course Description:

This intensive 5-day training course will provide you with the knowledge and skills that you need to install, terminate and test fibre optic cabling. This course focuses on the components, equipment and working practices that are typically used for datacomms systems for local area networks, where most of the key tasks have to be performed on cabling that is mainly in an internal (indoor) environment. The knowledge and skills aquired can also be applied to fibre optic systems used for CCTV, security, industrial process control and sensor applications.

Who is the course for?
This level 2 course is suitable for technicians who need to be able to install, terminate and test fibre optic cabling for local area networks, to the UK's nationally recognised professional standard. It can also be benefit managers & supervisors responsible for cable installation contracts.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course you will be able to:
• explain how and why fibre optic cabling is used in a datacomms environment
• explain how optical fibres work and the issues that can affect performance
• recognise and use the correct terminology and current standards
• identify fibre optic datacomms link components and explain their uses
• work safely with optical fibres in an internal environment
• follow recommended installation procedures and working practices
• prepare fibre optic cabling for termination, connectorisation and splicing
• terminate fibre optic cabling by fitting connectors
• terminate fibre optic cabling by fusion splicing
• test fibre optic datacomms links using recognised procedures.
