Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004 - Lead Auditor

This course provides delegates with an in-depth knowledge of the ISO 14001 series of
standards. It develops delegates understanding of the purpose and requirements of ISO
14001:2004 and the skills required to plan, conduct and report effective environmental
management system (EMS) audits, in accordance with ISO 19011:2002 (Guidelines for
QMS/EMS Auditing).

The course is registered and approved by the International Register of Certificated Auditors
(IRCA) and satisfies the structured training and examination requirement as the first step to
achieving IRCA Registered EMS Auditor status. The course, which runs over 5 concurrent days,
is practical in nature and includes accelerated learning techniques, role-play, seminars,
exercises, audit workshops and presentations and concludes with a 2-hour (open book)
examination.

Course Pre-requisites
Delegates are expected to have an understanding of the content, application and
implementation of the ISO 14001:2004 standard.

Course Content
• Understand the importance of an effective EMS as a management tool.
• Understand the purpose and requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 series of standards.
• Implement and manage EMS audit programmes covering first, second and third party audits.
• Plan, conduct, report and follow-up effective EMS audits in accordance with the ISO
19011:2002 guidelines.
• Utilise the audit process as an effective business tool for continual improvement of an EMS.

• Auditors with some experience of management systems seeking registration as an auditor or
