Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004 - IRCA Registered Auditor

The objective of this course is to train potential EMS Auditors/Lead Auditors in the principles
and practice of assessment of Environmental Management Systems for compliance with the
recognised EMS standard ISO 14001.
The course will train delegates in the development of positive auditing skills particular to EMS
auditing using a variety of analytical and structured methods of approach to auditing. The
course, which runs over 3 concurrent days, is practical in nature and includes accelerated
learning techniques and presentations and concludes with a 11/2 hour (open book) examination.

Course Pre-requisites
Delegates should have successfully completed an ISO 9001:2000 Lead Auditor course, and
are expected to be competent in auditing process based management systems (i.e. auditing,
QMS, OH&S).

Course Content
• Understand the purpose of an EMS and explain the principles, processes and techniques
used for the assessment and management of environmental aspects and impacts, including
the significance of these for EMS auditors.
• Understand the purpose, content and interrelationship of ISO 14001, the ISO 14000 series
of guidance standards, and the legislative framework relevant to an EMS.
• Understand the role of an auditor/lead auditor in planning, conducting, reporting and
following up an audit in accordance with the auditing standard ISO 19011.
• Undertake the role of an auditor/lead auditor of environmental management systems in
accordance with ISO 19011, interpreting the requirements of ISO 14001.
