Aims
The aim of this course is to introduce delegates to the techniques and practices of auditing environmental
management systems.

Objectives
At the end of the programme each delegate should be able to:
Understand the main elements of Environmental Policies and Management Systems
Explain the main requirements of environmental legislation applying to waste management, air and water
pollution
Identify environmental aspects for typical activities and their significance
Understand the different types of environmental audit including: compliance audits, EMS audits and single
issue audits
Appreciate the inter-relationships and differences between the ISO 14000 series, BS8555, EMAS, and the
ISO 9000 series
Identify the requirements of auditing under ISO 19011
Take part in internal audits including examination of documented systems, examination of internal control
systems, site inspections and interviews, audit reporting and follow-up
