Emergency Lighting for the Fire Safety Order combined with Competent Engineering Certificate (accredited by ICEL)

Now updated to include the latest standards on photometric data presentation and automatic testing

To assist employers, BSI British Standards and ICEL have produced this certification course that covers basic emergency lighting legislation, standards and design principles.

Engineers who successfully complete this assessed course will be able to use the Competent Engineering Certificate to demonstrate their knowledge and training.

Changes have been made to standards to support the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. There are considerable implications for the enforcement of fire safety precautions in the legislative changes of the Fire Safety Order. With the increased use of risk assessment techniques for evaluating building safety, considerable amounts of useful information will be available to match the level of protection required to the specific risks.

Agenda
-An update on current and new procedures, and standards for use in the emergency lighting of premises (includes the latest standards on photometric data presentation and automatic testing)
-An explanation of the risk assessment techniques that employers will have to use to demonstrate compliance with the Regulatory Reform Order (includes an analysis of the items that have particular relevance for emergency lighting systems)
-A checklist system to evaluate an existing emergency lighting scheme against the new requirements, and to determine proposals for any changes that may be needed
-The Evaluated Course in Competent Engineering with four assessed modules and a practical exercise:
- Module 1 - Impact of the changes particularly to testing schedules and procedures, including the interface with the draft IEC Lumex standard for automatic testing and the new European emergency application standard EN 50172 Basic emergency lighting forms and areas that require coverage with appropriate definitions
- Module 2 - Legislation and use of data from risk assessments obtaining pre-design information and preparation
- Module 3 - Design objectives and procedures including the illumination of exit signage and the design and verification of systems to meet required illumination levels
- Module 4 - Selection of the most appropriate system type and control procedures to verify system designs and testing methods and provision of test record systems. Maintenance considerations and on going application assessment.
- Practical exercise.
The supporting data will be provided electronically on a CD containing:
- A typical risk assessment template
- A typical test log for use to the new test schedules in EN 50172
- A typical completion certificate for use with small self contained systems
- Updated current ICEL Guides

Who should attend?
Those involved in the design, installation and manufacture of emergency lighting systems that meet the requirements of the fire safety risk assessment.
