About the course:
This course is suitable for non-electricians who carry out some electrical work in domestic properties and need a formal qualification before registering to self-certify their work.

On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a vocational related qualification from EAL. This is accepted as a satisfactory training requirement for entry into a Part P ‘Competent Person Scheme’.

Pre-requisites:
A basic knowledge of electrical installations is required.Suitable for those who hold no formal electrical qualifications. Candidates should have some practical skills.

10 days

Assessment:
17 multiple choice examinations and a practical assessment

Topics include:
> applicable building regulations for domestic electrical installation
> electrical safety legislation, regulation standards and terminology
> domestic electrical installation – pre-work survey/inspection
> domestic electrical installation – safe isolation procedures
> identifying unsafe electrical situations
> domestic electrical earthing and bonding requirements
> electrical test procedures
> selecting domestic electrical cable and components
> installing and replacing electrical components
> checking correct and safe operation of installed electrical components
> recording electrical test results and completing certificates
> installing and/or re-routing domestic electrical cables
> domestic electrical installation – special locations
> understanding of new domestic electrical requirements
> installing domestic lighting circuits
> maintaining domestic electrical installations
> basic understanding of 3-phase supplies
