This COSHH Awareness training course is held at a number of locations thoughout the UK including Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh in Scotland, Dartford in Kent, Ealing in London and Guildford in Surrey, Birmingham and Kettering in the Midlands, Manchester and Leeds in the North, and Bristol in the South West. To provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the basis and application of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH). Note that these regulations include requirements for a wide range of hazardous substances including chemicals, gases and biological agents such as legionella.

- Understand the principles of assessing the risks that may arise from hazardous substances.

- Outline the COSHH Regulations and understand how to implement practices to fulfil their requirements.
- Understand the control methods required for hazardous substances.
- Identify the location of, and be able to obtain relevant hazard information.
- Evaluate engineering controls.
- Maintain the correct records.

Course Content:
- IncludesProperties of hazardous substances; gases, liquids, solids, organic and inorganic compounds, biological agents.
- Classification of substances including reference to the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations (CHIP).
- Symbols and data sheets.Health effects due to hazardous substances including dermatitis, sensitisation, occupational asthma and cancers.
- The nature of Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL’s)An outline of the requirements of the COSHH Regulations.
- Explanation of the control measures required for the use of hazardous substances.


Who should attend:
Key workers, supervisors and managers who work with, or have responsibility for others who handle substances which are potentially hazardous to health. It is particularly relevant for any person who has specific responsibility for ensuring compliance with COSHH.
