Course Overview 

This intensive 3-day training course will provide delegates with the knowledge and installation skills that are needed to install, terminate and test copper cabling for datacomms structured cabling data networks.

This course covers the key tasks that have to be performed on datacomms cabling that is installed within the built environment, within the premises and in an internal environment; this includes office environments, public buildings, hospitals, airports, and other types of buildings where networks are deployed. The skills and knowledge gained can be applied to all data cabling and structured cabling, otherwise known as copper cabling, as used for commercial environments, including large office structured cabling systems and premises networks, SoHo Systems, and industrial communications cabling networks.

The course also focuses on key aspects of health and safety, the correct selection of tools, equipment and components as well as the working practices that are typically used for the installation of network cabling and structured cabling that support the transmission of data, voice and video.

Course Content
 
- Current terminologies in use as applied to Copper Communication Cabling Training 
- Health and Safety: copper data cabling in an internal environment 
- Basic electrical theory and principles with reference to datacomms cabling 
- Recommended data cabling installation procedures in accordance with standards 
- Data cable presentations, i.e. RJ45 & RJ11 
- Data cable performance categories (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) 
- Termination of communications cabling 
- Telephony installation using structured cabling 
- Fault find copper communication data cabling 
- Test cabling link performance against recognised standards 
- Interpret test results

In addition, the course will also describe typical examples of applications where particular categories of data cable can be deployed. 

Assessment 

All candidates are assessed via an examination comprising of 25 multiple choice questions - this is an ‘closed book’ examination and is carried out using the computer based City and Guilds Gola system - all candidates are given their results at the end of the examination. There is also a series of timed practical assessments. 

Other information 

This course leads to a fully accredited level 2 qualification in Copper Cabling in an Internal Environment.
