CIEH Level 1 Health and Safety in the Workplace Overview

The new CIEH Level 1 award in Health and Safety is run as half-day course. The qualification has been designed to meet the needs of those who are entering the workplace for the first time, either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment. It provides an awareness of key health and safety issues and the part that employees should play in keeping themselves and others free from harm at work. It will also benefit those who are starting a new job - as part of an induction programme.

Course content includes:
- Introduction to health and safety and health and safety law
- Health and Welfare
- Safety
- The workplace and work equipment
- Risk assessment, manual handling and hazardous substances
- Ergonomics, working at height, transport and noise and vibration

The course is assessed by a multiple - choice exam in which delegates have to achieve 20 correct answers after 30. Successful delegates then receive the CIEH accredited Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace, or a certificate of attendance if they achieve less than 20.
