5 Sessions plus observations

Entry Requirements:
Achievement of 6 credits (PTLLS) or willing to attain as part of CTLLS. Learners should be able to demonstrate competence in a specific subject area appropriate to their level. You will need to evidence 30 hours of delivery in own subject area.

Audience:
This course is a certificated course in teaching for those wishing to pursue an associate teaching role in the adult sector and is a minimum requirement for teaching adults.

An associate teacher is someone whose role and responsibilities demand a less extensive range of knowledge, understanding, and application of curriculum development than the ‘full’ role. Associate teachers may deliver learning on a one-to-one basis from pre-prepared materials or course pack, or on a course confined to a particular level/ subject/learner type. The role is not defined by the amount of time spent teaching or by contract type.

The course consists of 4-6 sessions usually run on a fortnightly basis, with one to one tutorials as required.

To achieve the CTLLS award, you will be expected to complete a portfolio of work that includes both written and practical assignments such as lesson planning, evaluation and schemes of work.

You are required to evidence delivery of teaching sessions. The CTLLS award will require approximately 30 hours of independent study and assignment work throughout the course programme hours.

Course Content:
Understand ways to: 
- negotiate appropriate individual goals with learners and how to plan for inclusive learning 
- use teaching and learning strategies and resources inclusively to meet curriculum requirements 
- use a range of communication skills and methods to communicate effectively with learners and relevant parties 
- demonstrate knowledge of the minimum core in own practice

Understand how: 
- reflection, evaluation and feedback can be used to develop own practice 
- key concepts and principles and different types of assessment 
- strengths and limitations of a range of assessment methods, including, as appropriate, those which exploit new and emerging technologies 
- the role of feedback and questioning in the assessment of learning 
- to monitor, assess, record and report learner progress and achievement to meet the requirements of the learning programme and the organisation. 
- to evaluate the effectiveness of own practice
