Basic Petroleum Engineering
A profitable development of an oil or gas field starts with a good understanding of the subsurface. The development then continues with integrated field management in which geology and reservoir engineering play an essential role.
Duration:
A 5-day course.
About the Course:
In this course the “development life cycle” from the gathering of geological data from seismic and wells, the interpretation thereof, the preparation of subsurface models and the quantification of their uncertainty are discussed. Attention is given to impact on field operations and on field management during its entire cycle. The course is intended for:
- Newly joined and newly qualified staff such Petroleum Engineers and Geologists involved in development of oil and gas reservoirs.
Contents of the programme include:
- Planning, gathering and management of geological data
- Geological concepts, global tectonics
- Geophysical methods, production seismic
- Basic drilling concepts and collection of well data, logging and testing
- Sequence stratigraphy, log correlation
- Petrophysics, log evaluation
- Environments of deposition (clastic, carbonates)
- Mapping of reservoir parameters and geometry
- Structural styles, trapping conditions, mapping
- Reservoir fluids, initial conditions
- Reservoir Architecture, geological modeling
- Oil and gas volumetric calculations
- Subsurface uncertainty and risk analysis
- Reservoir engineering, PVT analysis, dynamic models and productuon forecasts
- Production technology
- Basic facilities engineering, project planning, production operations
- Project costs and economics.
At the end of the course participants will be able to apply geological concepts, construct maps and sections and validate computer-generated interpretations. They will be able to calculate subsurface volumes and assess their uncertainties, and review their impact on facilities planning, operations and project economics. They will acquire practical experience by working on an actual field study in teams.
