About APM:
The APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management is for anyone who wishes to demonstrate a basic awareness of what project management comprises and how projects differ from normal work activities. No prior knowledge or experience in project management is required for this certificate, which covers 27 knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge 5th edition. The APM Body of Knowledge 5th edition forms the source materials for the examination. This will form the basis for revisiting training materials and developing exam questions.
The APM Introductory Certificate assesses the key elements of the project management lifecycle. Candidates will be able to understand the language of project management and the structure of a successful project. Candidates will be able to take an active part in a project team and make a positive contribution to any project environment.
The APM Introductory Certificate qualification is based on the APM Body of Knowledge 5th edition, which is acknowledged in Europe as the standard for competencies appropriate for project managers.
The APM Introductory Certificate examination is designed to assess the candidate's understanding of the key elements of the project management lifecycle. The candidate is expected to answer 60 multiple choice questions in one hour.
Audience:
No prior knowledge or experience in project management is required for this certificate. It is designed for anyone looking to start a successful career in project management or those wanting to understand the principles of project management excellence.

Course Objectives:
This course provides a route to the APM Introductory Certificate qualification By the end of this event delegates will have knowledge of the APM BoK and be able to:
- Appreciate the differences between project, programme and portfolio management and understand the benefits of managing groups of projects within an organisation
- Understand the need to consider the project internal and external context (environment)
- Define and appreciate the importance of establishing the project’s Success Criteria
- Understand the need for and be able to describe techniques for Benefits and Stakeholder Management
- Outline the kinds of plans the Project Manager will have to make and understand the importance of the Project Management Plan
- Appreciate the importance of Risk Management within a project and describe the Risk Management process
- Explain the purpose of quality planning and appreciate the benefits and costs of quality
- Use the various breakdown structures that the Project Manager has available to them
- Understand the benefits of using Project Life Cycles
- Have confidence in the use of scheduling techniques such as Critical Path Analysis, Levelling and Smoothing. Producing Resource Histograms and S-Curves
- Appreciate the need for resource management and project monitoring and controlling
- Understand and be able to describe Configuration Management, Change Control and Issue Management procedures
- Appreciate different estimating methods and the benefits of use of each
- Demonstrate knowledge of a project Business Case
- Define the terms and demonstrate a knowledge of Procurement
- Understand the need for a formal project close and handover
- Explain the need for and benefits of: effective Communication, Teamwork and Leadership
