Asbestos Identification
This course provides delegates with the theoretical and practical skills to be able to perform safely the analysis of bulk samples for the presence of asbestos.  To demonstrate a satisfactory level of competence in the technique, students analyse a set of six AIMS samples.

The course includes:
-Theory of Polarised Light Microscopy for the identification of asbestos minerals
-Analysis using stereomicroscope and polarised light microscope as described in MDHS 77·
-Practice analysis of a range of sample types, including rare asbestos types 
-Sample preparation techniques
-Problem fibres which mimic asbestos
-Non-asbestos and other synthetic fibres· 
-The AIMS proficiency testing scheme
