Course Objectives:
To help course participants build on the techniques, processes and concepts outlined in the TSO/OGC (ITIL®) publication “Applications Management and other related best practices. This will help them identify, define, build, deploy, maintain, promote and enhance benefit generating Applications and Services. The course places a strong emphasis on ensuring that IT projects and strategies are tightly aligned with those of the business throughout the applications lifecycle.
To prepare participants for the ISEB qualification in Applications Management.
Who will the course benefit?
Application Managers, Senior Applications Developers, Business and Systems Analysts / Designers, IS Project Managers, Service Management Support and Delivery staff.
Other essential staff who are involved in the Relationship, Programme, Project, ICT Infrastructure and Consultancy roles required for a Service Application Life Cycle enabled organisation.
What skills will the delegate gain?
This course will enable delegates to:
- Enhance their approach to managing applications from conception to retirement.
- Develop greater supplier and client confidence in IS applications.
- Provide advice and assistance with the identification, development, implementation and support for different applications and services.
Pre-Requisites:
We recommend that delegates have at least five years experience in IT with significant responsibilities for IS Planning, Applications development, Service Delivery and Business Support Issues.
Course Content:
- Application Management – An Overview
- Integrating Application Management with ICT Infrastructure Management, ITIL Service Support and Delivery and other related areas; planning issues; options; COTS, etc.
- Managing business value, aligning the strategy, business and organisational capabilities
- Readiness assessment, delivery strategy, environment.
- Requirements Phase
- Functional and other requirements. Modelling techniques, validation and verification, key responsibilities and deliverables.
- Design Phase
- Process, checklist, frameworks, testing.
- Build Phase
- Non-functional aspects, design and coding conventions, development tools, application instrumentation, event handling, diagnostic hooks.
- Deploy Phase
- Readiness checklists. Deployment toolkit and route map, Deployment / Distribution strategies.
- Operate Phase
- Corrective maintenance, SLA, Operational excellence, benefits assessment, reporting and realisation.
- Optimise Phase
- Application reviews, triggers and questions.
- Organising roles and functions
- Typical goals and metrics, knowledge management, roles and skill sets.
- Control Methods and Techniques
- Quality management, definitions, indicators and measuring techniques.
Examinations:
This course prepares delegates for the ITIL® based ISEB Certificate in Application Management Essentials. This may be taken on the final afternoon of the course.
