In brief:

With the Agency Workers Directive firmly back on the EU agenda and a stream of tribunal and court cases on the subject during the past year, this whole area of law, employee relations and best people management practice remains one of the most challenging for HR professionals to deal with. Failing to address fully and effectively the issue of temporary labour in the workforce, can easily and unnecessarily expose employers to potential tax liabilities, costly unfair dismissal claims and lengthy disputes. Efficient management and control of the use of temporary staff in an organisation can considerably reduce the amount of conflict in this area. It is essential that HR keeps up to date with the current legal framework and consistently reviews policies and procedures affecting agency workers. Highlights from the 2008 Conference: The Agency, Contract and Interim Workers Conference 2008 focused on the legal, tax and operational issues that arise when hiring temporary labour within an organisation. The day featured presentations from, Acas, Adecco, KPMG, Lewisham Council, Manches, McGrigors, and Recruitment and the Employment Confederation (REC) and provided key advice and top tips for managing temporary staff effectively. The programme for the next conference will be available later in the year.

Who should attend:
HR and Personnel Professionals, Recruitment Specialists, Resourcing Managers, In-house legal advisers

Conference highlights:
- A review of recent case law and legislative developments and the implications for agency workers’ rights
