- Formal and Internal Reporting
- The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations – an overview of the key piece of legislation to report certain events to the enforcing authorities.
- Accident Investigation Process and Prevention
- Accident investigation - the reasons to investigate and the elements of an effective investigation.
- How to perform an accident investigation (5 main steps) with practical exercises for some of the steps within the process, enabling a full understanding of what an effective investigation consist of.
- Proactive / reactive approaches and the principles of accident prevention.
- Accident Investigation Practical Exercise
- Completing an accident investigation practical exercise following a scenario from a video and then comparing to the suggested actions to be taken on the video.

This course is aimed at all levels to enable full understanding of the importance of reporting, outlines the causes of accidents, how to investigate, the analysis and recording of information, proactive vs. reactive control measures, RIDDOR.
Objectives:
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Define the key terms
- Understand the accident process and the financial implications associated with accidents
- Explain the formal reporting process as required by the current legislation and understand and complete the appropriate paperwork
- List the steps of an accident investigation process
- Identify proactive and reactive approaches to accident prevention
- Complete an accident investigation to the level of detail required by the associated legislation, subsequent to the practical exercise and scenario
